President Neil Farquhar welcomed 112 members and guests to our Society's Annual Burns Supper at the
wonderful venue of Dover's historic Town Hall on Friday 22nd January 2010 to celebrate the 251st
Anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns.

The meal, soup; haggis (mashed neeps n tatties); steak pie & vegetables ; cranachan : was excellent and well served by the
caterers, Thanet LeisureForce (Margate Wintegardens). The Cranachan was a special dessert this year as Graham had
asked the caterers to do it and apparently the Chef is not only Scottish but used to work in Scottish hotels and restaurants
and this was well within his capability.
The after dinner Toasts were memorable, Neil managing to keep things on track and after he had made the Loyal Toast,
the Immortal Memory was delivered knowledgably and passionately by Arthur Donald,
special guest for the night. He mixed fact with powerful recitation of verse and this was well received by an attentive
audience. Neil made the Toast to our Guests, re-iterating how important all our Guests were to the Society and Ian Peel
made a sincere reply. The Toast to The Lassies was made my Graham Hutchison, who opened by recalling the brilliant
Toast his father had made last year which received rapturous applause. He said he could not hope to Top or even equal
that, so he had written a poem titled "Toast to The Lassies". This was well received with rapturous acclaim with many
of the entranced audience demanding copies and recommending he get it published. Have we a Poet Laureate or Bard
in our presence ? (You decide - the poem is on this website) The reply was well made by Nan Walker in humourous fashion
following which the piper Margaret piped the Top Table through to the main hall.
These are some of our posters which were donated to our Society and we
at all our Burns' Suppers.

APOLOGY :
The original article made reference to Iain Fairweather who was the Toastmaster at this event.
In this article, Iain felt the phraseology was offensive towards him and made a complaint.
The offending article was amended with the offending words and references removed as soon
as the webmaster became aware of the complaint. The Committee upheld this part of Iain's complaint
and although it is accepted there was certainly no offence intended, it was agreed that there had
been the potential for Iain to have taken offence and as such we offer Iain unreserved apologies.
The Editor/Webmaster, in particular, is very disappointed to have published an article which could
have caused offence and offers his personal apology, together with the collective Committee one.
