HISTORY OF THE DOVER & EAST KENT SCOTTISH SOCIETY

As secretary of the Society I have come into posession a number of historical records and documents dating back to 1888.   I propose to research and write a history of the Society but this will take some time to assemble.  Some of the early minutes are very interesting and give, not only an insight into the workings of this Society, but an insight into life generally at the turn of the start of the 20th Century and before World War I.

As a taster, I have scanned some very interesting documents, including Telegrams from the Queen.

Telegrams from the Private Secretary of Her Majesty The Queen                   Notice Card of The Dover & East Kent Scottish Society
        1954 and 1955.                                                                                                1897, showing President as P W J Mackenzie JP

The Programme for ST Andrew's Dinner Dance 29th November 1907 at Hotel Burlington, Dover.

The Earl and Countess of Selkirk were invited to St Andrews Dinner Dance in 1955 and Lord Selkirk
made the main toast of the evening - To St Andrew and Caledonia. This was regarded as quite a coup for the
President - Captain Percy and Lord Selkirk was a Group Captain in ther RAF and younger brother of
the Duke of Hamilton - the highest ranking Noble in Scotland at that time. At the AGM of 1956 The Dover and
East Kent Scottish Society voted to make Lord and Lady Selkirk Honorary Life Members of this Society.
Considering they both lived until 1994 it would be strange not to see their involvement with the Society
after 1956 but an initial look has not revealed any which is a shame as surely they would have been
great to invite to the Centenary Year celebrations in 1987.

THIS IS JUST A TASTER - MORE LATER AS MY RESEARCH DEVELOPS !!!
