HOGROAST STEAM RALLY  Saturday 16th August 2008 at
The Fox Inn, Temple Ewell .

The President, Neil, his wife Veronica and daughter Katrina joined the Hutchison clan, Harry,
and Molly - making her first evening outing in ages, plus son Graham, daughter Janet and
members of their respective families, plus Jenny Harley travelling all the way from Romney Marsh.
Harry and Molly are amongst the oldest/longest members of this Society (1968), with grandchildren being
amongst the youngest/newest (2008).  Steve and Alyson (landlords) made us feel very welcome and the two
of us in Kilts were not made to feel "odd" at all - it was my first trip on the bus in a kilt - but I did get a lift
home!  I think it was a shame more members did not feel like partaking as the venue at The Fox Inn
at Temple Ewell is a great place to meet, have a blether and also has great real ale !
Full list, Neil, Veronica and Katrina Farquhar, Harry, Molly, Graham, James and Hayleigh Hutchison,
Janet and Dennis Withers, Hayley Knott and Jennifer Harley.  The evening turned out nice with
good food and plenty of blether !  Our President also won the first Duck race - it was nice to see
a race in the water not won by Michael Phelps !

The "Hog"                                                    The "Steam Engine "

Barrell Organ                   as again with different organist.

Harley Davidson bike of Norman "Jock" Murray
our newest member - joined today - 16th August !
He hails from Ayrshire, just 3 miles from Burns' Cottage
and can recite the National Bard - so must be okay !

OTHER EVENTS :

The main events are now archived or have their own pages.  I am retaining this one of the Autumn Ceilidh as it shows the
Society and it's members and guests having some fun and is a good introduction to the rest of the website. Some of you
probably thought you'd never appear on the World Wide Web - but here you are.

CEILIDH  -  TRIANGLE CENTRE, DOVER. SATURDAY 20th OCTOBER 2007.

Harry and the Borderers                         Dancing ?                                                         Dancing, watching, sitting, eating

Almost a packed dancefloor !                                  Young Scottish Country Dancers - so fast - a blurrrr

The Dover Divas                                               Special Guest singers.
Approximately 60 members and guests attended the latest Society Ceilidh held at the Triangle Centre in Dover.  The Borderers supplied the main music again, with support from our piper, Margaret and there was a guest appearance by local singer Paul Jennings, who with his female partner (forgive me as I currently do not have the name) sang a song to which he had written the words in Gaelic.  Sandy and Andy did their usual opener and we again were blessed with songs by the Dover Divas.  We were also treated to a performance by the Scottish Country Dance juniors.  New committee member, Graham ran The Greatest Scot Quiz - won by a team effort containing the two Margarets and Jean who used guile rather than guesswork and Iain worked tirelessly to ensure Joe did not win the Elimination Waltz and that the prize went to guests !

We should all thank Joe for his stirling work in organising the event and trying his best to get people up dancing.  Great thanks also to Veronica and her team for the hot beverages at the refreshments break.

Amongst the guests who attended were former committee members Charles (past president) and Charlotte Barral, and Frank Wharton of St Andrews Night music fame.

As Joe so aptly states, there are no strangers, just friends you haven't yet met.
